In Jesus’ time the Pharisees thought they could perfectly name and keep the law of God. In doing so they excluded many people who they judged to be unclean and imperfect. Jesus comes to the excluded, the sick, the unclean and he heals by exchanging his perfect holiness for our sin and he rejoices in hosting us who are sinners and saints at his banquet table on earth and in heaven to come.
