After his baptism Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. Unlike Israel before him, he remains faithful to the Word and will of God. For us he will remain faithful to the end, all the way to the cross. Human beings like me and you struggle to remain faithful and are so easily tempted into sin. Like Paul in Romans 7 we can despair of doing what we don’t want to do. Jesus calls us anew this Lent to learn the way of the cross, the way of forgiveness and the way of holy living.
