In our Old Testament story today, we meet a high ranking, important soldier suffering from a terrible skin disease. He wants to be healed, and he has his own thoughts on how he should be healed. He thinks he can only trust the advice of someone who is important as he is. So when he is given the Word of God for his healing by humble servants who don’t have his earthly power, he initially doesn’t listen and trust them, even though they’re speaking God’s Word. What about you and me today? Who do you trust? Is God’s Word enough for you for eternal life? [Pentecost 4]
